The novel begins in the early hours of the morning as Perowne wakes for the day. The day is the 15th of February 2003 – the same day as a large protest across Britain against Tony Blair’s support for the American invasion of Iraq. Saturday follows a day in the life of Henry Perowne, a successful neurosurgeon and father to a comfortable middle-class family.
